One, it is a wake-up call at the right time for the team ahead of the World Cup next year, and two, it has given the team think-tank and the selectors enough time to ring in changes and prepare the team for that event.

India lost the ODI series much to the chagrin of their fans, who even booed them at Lord's, a rarity in this part for them. It was undoubtedly a great setback for the team in their preparation for the next year's World Cup, but a couple of positives came out of the defeat.

One, it is a wake-up call at the right time for the team ahead of the World Cup next year, and two, it has given the team think-tank and the selectors enough time to ring in changes and prepare the team for that event. "That's what every side is looking for... they are looking for the best balance they can have possibly.

All these sort of series and these sort of losses will tell us exactly what we need to work on and the things we need to rectify come World Cup time," skipper Virat Kohli said. "We've got 15-16 games (up to the World Cup) to get the balance of the side strong," he added. He gave indication that the team could see some changes when they next play in an ODI, the Asia Cup in the UAE in September.
