Sachin Tendulkar is not known to comment on issues that have any remote possibility of being blown out of proportion. But when he does say something, it is always to the point.

The batting maestro, who was presented with the first copy of Out of the Box Watching the Game We Love, Harsha Bhogle's collection of articles yesterday, was asked what he thought of Sunil Gavaskar's comment that after the Indian Premier League, many players now do not yearn for the India cap. "I am not trying to debate anyone's opinion but the IPL has given many cricketers a chance to play cricket. All of us take up cricket because of the passion for it and not for money. Everyone wants to wear an India cap but not everyone can.

You have to be realistic too," Tendulkar said.

"In that sense, the IPL is a great opportunity for players who might never play for India. At 20, they might realise they will never be able to play for India. But the passion for the game is still there and the IPL gives them a chance to continue with their passion."
