New Team India coach Anil Kumble's unique style was on display at the preparatory camp in Bangalore on Sunday as he made the team play drums with acclaimed actor-musician Vasundhara Das' group 'Drumjam'
New Team India coach Anil Kumble does things differently. He is showing is unique style from Day 1 of the preparatory camp for the West Indies at Bangalore.
Kumble's refreshing approach includes making bowlers practice in the nets, the Buddy Project, where players are split into groups of two, with a senior player guiding a junior one and more.
Sunday saw another the legendary leggie bowl another googly. He made the team play drums with acclaimed actor-musician Vasundhara Das' group 'Drumjam'.
In a what can be termed a first for the Indian cricket team, the senior players like Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli along with 'A' team players like Varun Aaron enjoyed a jam session.
According to a BCCI statement, "What the Indian team did today was called 'Drum Circle'. It is an activity where 'a group of people seated in a circle, plays drums together'."
Drum Circle is a rhythm-based activity that's a "great way to communicate, team building, transcending barriers, improves group communication and harmony, a sense of belonging, stress-relief, discovering creativity, energising participants and improving focus."
Well, all we can say is that seeing the likes of MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Co trying their hands at drums reminded us of the times we have tried our hands at percussion instruments to no avail.Hope they had better luck!
It also reminded us of songs like 'Dholi taaro' and 'Dhol baaje laga'. How about you?
