North Mumbai Panthers were back to winning ways in the T20 Mumbai League after defeating Shivaji Park Lions by five wickets at the Wankhede Stadium yesterday. The Lions posted 138 for five in 20 overs with Siddharth Akre top-scoring with 39. For Panthers, Saeed Shaikh was the pick of the bowlers with four for 18. In reply, Panthers' chase was led by Yashasvi Jaiswal's 43-ball 69 with the match going down the wire. Earlier, a fine all-round effort helped SoBo SuperSonics (SS) register their second win of the tournament after beating NaMo Bandra Blasters by 50 runs.
Batting first, SuperSonics scored 149 for six in a rain-truncated 18-over match. Wicketkeeper-batsman Prasad Pawar top-scored with a 53-ball 83 knock, an innings that was laced with six hits to the fence and three sixes. For the Blasters, pacer Azhar Ansari picked up 3-21. Courtesy a disciplined SS bowling attack, the Blasters were reduced to 37 for 6 under ten overs. Except for skipper Shreyas Iyer (25 off 19 balls), none of the Blasters' top-order batsmen reached double figures.
The damage was caused by pacer Rohan Raje. In his first two overs, he dispatched Kevin Almeida (0) and Nikhil Patil (1). Aman Khan (4) was then caught brilliantly at point by Gaurav Jathar off pacer Abhishek Nayar. SuperSonics skipper Nayar was also instrumental to see the back of his counterpart Iyer, who was caught by 'keeper Prasad Patil. Nayar picked up his third wicket when long-on fielder Jay Bista took a good diving catch by running at least 10 yards from the boundary line to get rid of Aniket Redkar (8).
