Brian McKechnie, who faced Trevor Chappell's underarm delivery exactly 30 years ago at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, says he is trying hard to forget the incident, but has met with no success. "I am trying to forget it, but I can't," he said when contacted in New Zealand.

"The month of February is significant in my life. It started with the underarm, I married Barbara on the Valentine's Day and her birthday too falls in this month (February 23)," he added. The 57-year-old McKechnie represented New Zealand in rugby. Recalling that hot day in Melbourne, he said, "It (underarm) was legal then.

It's sad that it happened, but I have no grudges against Trevor Chappell. We are on talking terms."

Interestingly, Kiwi cricketer Warren Lees, who recounted the underarm incident on New Zealand's 20/20 current affairs show a few years ago, said that the long silence in the New Zealand dressing room was broken when fellow player Mark Burgess smashed a teacup.
