When is the Indian team going to celebrate their Durban Test win? Not in the next few days at least. "What celebration? We haven't won the series as yet," said coach Gary Kirsten when asked about his team letting their hair down and living it up.
Sure, there was a bit of yelling after the team achieved their first Test win at Kingsmead, but there were no wild celebrations which you would associate a historic win with. Quite unlike the scenes at The Wanderers in Johannesburg when Rahul Dravid's team drew first blood in the opening Test of the 2006-07 Test series.
It can be recalled that the team under coach Greg Chappell went on to lose the second Test at Durban as well as the third in Cape Town at the start of 2007. It was a pity because they had everything going for them in Cape Town including the vital first innings lead but surrendered to the South Africans thanks to some indifferent batting.
If insiders are to be believed, the team will not touch their cricket gear until January 1 when they assemble for training at Newlands, Cape Town. Of course, there are some suckers for practice who might venture out for a net earlier than scheduled.
The team will only leave for Cape Town on December 31. "A huge celebration is due if we win in Cape Town," revealed Kirsten.
