Melbourne: Australia pace spearhead Mitchell Starc's is likely to be ruled out of the 2016 Twenty20 World Cup after deciding to undergo surgery for his long-term ankle problems.
The 25-year-old suffered a foot fracture during the opening day of the historic day-night Test against New Zealand in Adelaide, where he picked up three-wickets in the first innings.

Speaking on the matter, team physio David Beakley confirmed that the left-hander met with specialists to get an opinion on his foot injury and ongoing right ankle impingement.
"After discussions with specialists, and in consultation with Mitchell, we believe the best course of action would be for Mitchell to have the surgery for his ankle impingement now while he is currently laid off with the stress fracture in his foot,' Beakley was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
Beakley also said that Starc's availability for the next year's World Cup in India could only be confirmed after his surgery.
Earlier, Starc had expressed that he would not go for a surgery as he was looking forward to the World Twenty20 tournament in March.
