Legendary Sachin Tendulkar has raised concerns about the shadow that covers almost half of the Wankhede Stadium pitch when the sun is about to set, MiD DAY has learnt.

The Mumbai team is unhappy as the shadow makes it difficult to sight the ball during the last half-an-hour of day's play between 4.30 pm to 5 pm.

MCA's joint honorary secretary Nitin Dalal

A few players with whom MiD DAY spoke too admitted that it was a big issue. "There is a problem in seeing the ball as it suddenly appears from the dark. It is extremely difficult to focus when the pacers are bowling," said a senior player.

The gaps in the railing over the Vijay Merchant Pavilion (on the seaface side) break the shadow, making it all the more difficult for the players to track the ball.u00a0It is learnt that Tendulkar has raised this issue with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials and urged them to find a solution, but nothing has been done as yet.

MCA's joint honorary secretary Nitin Dalal confirmed the issue has been brought to their notice: "We are aware about this (shadow issue). It has been brought to our notice. But there is nothing that can be done.

"We also spoke to our architects (Shashi Prabhu & Co), but they said nothing can be done now. Players have to deal with it."u00a0The refurbished Wankhede Stadium has been built at the cost of Rs 320 crore by the MCA before the 2011 World Cup.
