The first Sunday of the New Year turned out to be far from relaxed for the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) top brass, who got into damage control mode with regards to the Kotla fiasco.

Though the BCCI has admitted in the draft that the wicket was "poor", according to the ICC definition, it certainly "wasn't unplayable". If the ICC concludes the wicket was unplayable, the sanctions could be heavier.

However, the BCCI hasn't sent the reply to the ICC as yet, contrary to what is being widely reported. It is likely to be sent across to the ICC on Thursday or Friday. The India vs Lanka ODI on December 27 was abandoned after 23 overs due to a dangerous wicket.
