Ex-India Test all-rounder & Mumbai coach Karsan Ghavri backs head coach Ravi Shastri's demand for own support staff
Ravi Shastri is in the eye of a storm two days after his appointment
Ravi Shastri's appointment as Team India's head coach by the BCCI created equal drama as his exit as Team Director last year.
Two days after the announcement of former India pacer Zaheer Khan as the bowling consultant and ex-India skipper Rahul Dravid as the team's batting expert for overseas tours, it is learnt that Shastri is adamant to bring back former India medium pacer Bharat Arun, who served as the team's bowling coach last year.

Shastri to meet CoA soon
Shastri is expected to meet the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) in this regard soon. Should Shastri be demanding his own support staff? "Arun has been working with the Indian pacers when Ravi was Team Director. He is aware of what's happening. Zaheer is very new (to coaching). He has played for a number of years, but playing and coaching are two different things. If Ravi has a choice to get Arun back, definitely he will," former India cricketer Karsan Ghavri told mid-day yesterday.
Like Dravid, Zaheer's involvement as consultant will be on a tour-by-tour basis.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) which picked Shastri, has written to Vinod Rai, the head of CoA, expressing their displeasure at the perception that Dravid and Zaheer were forced upon Shastri.

'CAC must pick coaches'
Ghavri, who had two stints as Mumbai's Ranji Trophy team coach apart from being on the selection panel, felt it was the duty of the CAC to appoint or reappoint Team India's batting, bowling and fielding coaches. "If they (CAC) selected the head coach, then other coaches should also have been picked by them. After all, they are all legends. Zaheer, nonetheless, deserves to be the bowling consultant," Ghavri added.
