Mumbai under Wasim Jaffer, the Test discard, won the Ranji Trophy for the 38th time by beating Uttar Pradesh here this afternoon.
Set to chase an impossible 525 runs, Uttar Pradesh under Mohammad Kaif, another India discard, were bowled out for 281.u00a0 Mumbai won by a massive 243 runs on the fifth and final day at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The star of the day was young paceman Dhaval Kulkarni, who ended up with figures of five for 76. The Mumbai Indians IPL player was well supported by off-spinner Ramesh Powar who claimed three for 75.
UP were well served by their skipper Kaif, who scored 72. Bhuvnesh Kumar, who starred with the ball in Mumbai's first innings (five for 78), top scored with 80 before being caught behind off Kulkarni.

It was yet another final loss for Uttar Pradesh, who are the Ranji finalists for the last two seasons. This was the 75th year of the tournament.
