It could be Pravin Amre versus Ramesh Powar for Mumbai coach's post

Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) yesterday spent around 10 hours conducting interviews for the posts of coach of the Mumbai Ranji team as well as the U-19 team but failed to come to any conclusion. They have decided to meet again this afternoon at the MCA office.

Former Test off-spinner Ramesh Powar, former Rajasthan coach Pradeep Sunderam and ex-Mumbai stumper and U-23 coach Vinayak Samant, who have all applied for the Mumbai Ranji coach's job, were interviewed yesterday. It is learnt that the CIC also discussed former India batsman and ex-Mumbai coach Pravin Amre though he has not even applied for the post. It seems to be a Powar v Amre affair here.

"A member of the CIC spoke to Amre and he has asked for a day to think about it. Powar's name was close to being finalised but since he quit his post as spin bowling coach of the indoor academy, criticising MCA a few months ago, that aspect came into the discussion," a source told mid-day.The CIC comprising former India pacers - Balvinder Singh Sandhu and Raju Kulkarni, ex-Mumbai off-spinner Kiran Mokashi and former Mumbai opener Sahil Kukreja also interviewed candidates for the Mumbai U-19 coach's post.

Former Mumbai captain and CIC member Amol Muzumdar, who is in Bangalore, participated in the process via video conference. Pradeep Kasliwal, Vinod Raghavan, Kiran Powar, Wilkin Mota, Milind Tamhane, Dinesh Lad, Sandeep Dahad and Rahul Thakur were called for interviews. The CIC is also thinking about appointing assistant coaches for each team instead of appointing specialised bowling coaches.
