St Stanislaus' Isaac Cardozo played the skipper's role to perfection on Saturday by scoring the winning goal in the 42nd minute despite injury to his right knee against Christ Church, Byculla in a MSSA Div I tie at Azad Maidan.
The Bandra outfit registered a 2-0 win. u00a0Isaac played a crucial role in his team's victory. He had a bruised left leg, but played on with blood oozing.
"If you play football, you shouldn't bother much about injuries. They are part and parcel of the game. Today, I just had a bruised left knee, but on Tuesday, I had a cut on my right knee.
I love the game, so I love injuries too," said the 14-year-old. Modest Isaac attributed the win to Sam Fernandes (14) who opened the scoring in the 32nd minute. "We just wanted to win this game.
Being the skipper, I didn't want to sit out and see others play and struggle. I am glad I scored, but credit for the win should go to Sam, who played an important role," Isaac told Sunday MiD DAY.
Meanwhile, Sam said: "Isaac is an important part of the team. He could have sat out, but he is mad over football and nothing can stop him from playing. His life revolves around the sport."
Christ Church's skipper Rayyan Shaikh was the big hurdle for the Bandra team. "We knew if we mark Rayyan, we could defeat Christ Church," added Isaac.
