Andy Roberts, who was coach of the West Indies during the 1996 World Cup, was not surprised by India's Cup triumph. "I had tipped India to win because they were playing at home.
"Outside the sub-continent, I don't think they would've had a chance," he said, his cynicism based on the India's often projected foibles against the bouncing ball. India's failure to hit the high notes at the 2010 World T20 in the West Indies was attributed to the batsmen's lack of ability to deal with bounce.
"I can't understand why the BCCI, with all its resources, are not able to produce wickets with bounce so that the players practice on them. Yes, India are on top at the moment, but that's because they have done well at home.u00a0They must win consistently abroad and cope with the bouncing ball because teams will prepare bouncy pitches for them when they go abroad," Roberts said, pointing to India's inability to win a Test series in Australia and South Africa where pitches are conducive to fast bowling. However, Mahendra Singh Dhoni's became the first Indian team to draw a series in South Africa earlier this year.
