The Indian cricket team spent their Saturday training hard in Benoni for Wednesday's opening Test against South Africa at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

They could have opted to play a match among themselves on what would have been the second day of their abandoned tie against a South Africa Invitational XI, but Dhoni & Co chose to work in the nets.

Among the batters, Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay had extensive sessions where the opening batsmen concentrated on dealing with short deliveries. They put the pull shot to good use a day after they focused on leaving deliveries.

Pacemen Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma spent a great deal of time working on their skills. The team could have trained at the Wanderers but chose to do so in Benoni, the venue of their warm-up game which is a 45-minute drive from Johannesburg.

India face a daunting task to quell the threat from the South African bowlers who are cock-a-hoop after their 2-0 triumph in the recent one-day series.

The last match at Centurion was called off due to rain after South Africa batsman Quinton De Kock slammed his third hundred on the trot in the series. However, De Kock is not part of South Africa's Test match squad which is led by Graeme Smith.
