India can win next month's cricket World Cup if the team maintains the extraordinary spirit and form that it exhibited in the recent series in South Africa, opener Gautam Gambhir said.
"The Indian team performed well in difficult conditions there. Till now we didn't do well in South Africa. This is the first time we have performed well," Gambhir, who was here to announce the field of drivers for the MRF Formula 1600 Championship 2011 as its Brand Ambassador, said.
"Whether it is a Test match or one dayer, we performed well there this time. We levelled the Test series and played well in the One Dayers, besides winning the only twenty20 match. "If the team plays in the same spirit and form, we will do well and India can wish to win the World Cup," said Gambhir, who had to return home midway from South Africa because of a soft tissue injury.
The 29-year-old said he was "fit and feeling excited" and hoped to recover fully before the quadrennial event starts from February 19 in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. "I am recovering well. I will be 100 per cent fit before the World Cup," he said.

"Now I am much better and in a day or two I will be batting and will be fit before the preparatory camp and the warm up matches to get ready to play Bangladesh in the first match," he added.
Gambhir said spinners would play a decisive role in the coming World Cup as the pitches in the sub-continent, especially India, would favour spin.
