Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai's highest run-getter in last three Ranji Trophy seasons, has been called to Dharamsala as cover for Team India skipper Virat Kohli, who is recovering from a shoulder injury sustained during the third Test at Ranchi.
When mid-day contacted Iyer at his residence, he said: "It's a surprise call for me. I did not expect it. But whatever has happened is very good. If I am replacing a cricketer like Kohli, it's a very big thing for me."
Iyer hit a double hundred in the warm-up game against Australia at CCI's Brabourne Stadium in February. Even though Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were rested during that match, Iyer's innings was praised by one and all.
"I am going to join the Indian team with those memories and the same confidence I showed during that match," added Iyer.
