New Delhi: Messrs McCullum & Smith sound like a firm of solicitors and that may well be true in one way, since they have been on the case of almost every side that has come up against Chennai Super Kings in the seventh edition of the IPL.
Brendon McCullum
Imports both, in more senses than one - the Kiwi coming in from Kolkata Knight Riders and Smith from Mumbai Indians - one wonders what these two sides must be thinking now.
"I knew Brendon from the New Zealand team," CSK coach Stephen Fleming said before practice at the Ferozshah Kotla yesterday, ahead of their match with Delhi Daredevils.
"He was a young man then but is now captain of the NZ team and a great influence. "His influence is also evident in the CSK line-up, with the way he is batting, his running between wickets and his fielding, which is absolutely electric." Fleming was all praise.
"McCullum, along with Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja and all the other players, have made the fielding brilliant. He is the highlight of the team." Smith has taken to the opener's role, as McCullum's partner, with aplomb and definitely more command than he had with Mumbai.
Best option
"We have played against him in earlier editions and he was always a headache, and the only way to stop him was to buy him. I am very glad that we managed to get him," Fleming laughed.
