Bangalore: Having played a game at home on Wednesday, it was natural that Mumbai Indians (MI) decided to take the day off and not hit the nets yesterday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. On the other hand, hosts Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who last played at Indore on Monday, were out in full strength, with even Virat Kohli fit and raring to go. One man though, himself having recovered from injury and played just one game, came to the nets but with his young son in tow and didn't bother to lay bat on ball. That's AB de Villiers for you.
"With AB you don't question anything because he understands his game better than anyone. We are not bothered with him not having a practice session. He was happier playing with the kid I guess," said skipper Kohli. "He had a decent last game and he just wanted to have a few days off because his family is here. It was a conscious decision we took so that he can have a bit of time away from cricket and with his family," he added.
Kohli lives and breathes cricket and so for his part, he was glad that he is now all set to play. "I got hit (injured) on the 16th (March), it's almost been a month.
Never a good feeling when you have played for seven to eight years without missing a game," said Kohli. "I am just delighted to be back and very excited to take the field."
The Indian and RCB captain is wary of his opponents though. "Mumbai is a strong team. They won the IPL twice and that's a fair assessment of how good they are as a team. We have to be wary of what Mumbai can bring to the table. Everyone has a fair chance of winning in T20 and in IPL especially, with a good combination of Indians and foreigners, whoever plays well on the day walks away with the victory. But we have to focus on our strengths and see what we can achieve. Our focus is to play good cricket and get the desired result," added Kohli.
