Hughes, Katich tons boost Aus

Phillip Hughes and Simon Katich scored stylish tons as Australia piled on the pressure on hosts South Africa on Day One of the second Test here yesterday.

Australia were finished on 303 for four at the close although South Africa fought back after a pummeling in the first three hours of play. Hughes (115) and Katich (108) put on a 184-run opening stand, scoring at over four runs an over, in a partnership dominated by Hughes, who thrashed 19 fours and two sixes off 151 balls. Katich was more sedate scoring off 190 deliveries with 16 fours.
