According to sources, the Delhi batsman has asked the BCCI to not include him because the December 2-6 Test coincides with his sister's wedding to be held in New Delhi.

The selectors are expected to announce the Mumbai Test team on Saturday. This means Virender Sehwag will miss his consistent opening partner in the series' finale. Gambhir has scored four consecutive hundreds. The southpaw scored 179 and 97 in the Mohali Test against England last year, but failed to get to three figures in the opening Test of the New Zealand tour. However, he has been unstoppable from the Napier Test. In current series against Sri Lanka, Gambhir has scored 114 in Ahmedabad and 167 in India's first innings at Kanpur.

It is learnt that Tamil Nadu's Murali Vijay will partner Sehwag in Mumbai.

India are on the verge of victory in Kanpur and if they win, Sri Lanka will have no chance of a series win, something they are chasing on Indian soil since 1986-87. In fact, they have yet to win a Test in India.

Vijay could latch on to the chance and justify his potential.
