Central Zone put on a dominant show to beat West Zone by six wickets in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Inter Zonal league at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai yesterday.
Put into bat, West, who were reeling at 61-5 on a lively pitch, managed to reach 160-8, Aditya Tare and Deepak Hooda slammed 40 and 49 not out respectively to help West rally after they lost half the side cheaply. The duo stitched a partnership of 47 during their rescue act. Central overhauled the target in 18.2 over, in the process lost four wickets.
Madhya Pradesh's Harpreet Singh top-scored with 62 off 42 balls. Harpreet added 79 runs for the fourth wicket with Mahesh Rawat (30 not out) to pave the way for Central's win.
In the second match of the day, Shikhar Dhawan made a quickfire 50 in 38 balls, while his Delhi teammate Gautam Gambhir slammed a 51-ball 81 to help North beat South Zone by eight wickets.
Chasing South's target of 175, Rishabh Pant hit a 19-ball 33 to take North to 176 for 2 in 18.4 overs. Ricky Bhui (50) top-scored for South and was supported by Mayank (32) Agarwal and Vijay Shankar (34).
