Rohit Sharma is a man with all qualities of a true sportsman. He is a right-handed batsman and an occasional right-arm off break bowler who plays for Mumbai in domestic cricket. Despite all the ups and downs in his career, Rohit is sailing on his path to success with all his hardwork and dignity. As Rohit Sharma celebrates his 28th birthday, we take a look at his top 5 innings.
1. 264, India v Sri Lanka, 2014 (ODI)
Rohit Sharma created history by becoming the first man ever to smash two double centuries in ODIs after getting his second double ton vs Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in 2014. He surpassed Virender Sehwag's 219 to become the highest-scorer in ODIs. India went on to score 404 out of which Rohit's scintillating run included 33 fours and 9 sixes. India won the match by 153 runs. Ironically, he was dropped on 4 and rest we know is history.
2. 209, India Vs Australia, 2013 (ODI)
Rohit Sharma's first double century (209) came against Australia in Bangalore on November 3, 2013 adding glitter to the ongoing Diwali at that time. In the series decider Rohit slammed his way to a sensational 158-ball 209 as India posted a mammoth 383/6 in their 50 overs. He became the third player in ODIs to hit a double hundred after Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag.
3.177, India Vs West Indies, 2013 (Test)
Rohit Sharma made his Test debut on November 7, 2013, and he sure made it a memorable one. Rohit was supposed to play for tests in 2010 but a last-minute ankle injury robbed him of the opportunity. Nonetheless, when Rohit Sharma made his Test debut against West Indies in 2013, it was delightful to watch. Rohit smashed 177 with 58.80 which put India in control.
4. Hattrick DC vs MI, Centurion, 2009 (IPL)
The hit man is also credited with a bowling hattrick in IPL back in 2009 against Mumbai Indians when he was in Deccan Chargers team. His hat trick included the wickets of Abhishek Nayar (Bowled) and Harbhajan Singh (Bowled) on the last 2 deliveries of 16th over and JP Duminy (Caught) off the first delivery. Overall he took 4 wickets in 5 balls and finished with 4/6 off 2 overs and Chargers beat Indians by 19 runs. Rohit Sharma was declared the Man of the Match due to his crucial wickets.
5. 137, India vs Bangladesh, 2015 (ICC Cricket World Cup 2015)
Rohit Sharma's classy 137 vs Bangladesh was one of those great innings of self-restraint played by a batsman who could be extravagant and bordering on reckless at times. Rohit was caught in the deep when he was on 90 but was ruled out when umpires declared Rubel Hossain's delivery as above waist-height and therefore a no-ball. He went on to score a smashing 137 runs off 126-balls roaring India into the semis.
