Kolkata: In April, when Arun Lal's battle against cancer was made public, the former India cricketer vowed to be back in the commentary box in two months' time.

Staying true to his word, Arun Lal is all set to resume duty behind the microphone today as a part of a commentary panel consisting VVS Laxman and Dean Jones for the Cricket Association of Bengal's Super League match at Eden Gardens which would be telecast live as it is India's first experiment with the pink ball. "I am super excited," Arun Lal said yesterday.
Chemotherapy sessions have resulted in Arun Lal losing his beard. The 60-year-old will also be unable to wear a tie as it might cause some pain in the neck region.
"The doctors at Tata Memorial Center (Kolkata) have performed a miracle. I am looking great with very little distortion," remarked Arun Lal.
Dr P Arun, who was a part of the surgery team, said: "Arun Lal getting back to work is great news. I appreciate his grit in braving a very intense course of treatment. His positive attitude is an encouragement to all patients battling the disease. He has sent out the right message - cancer cannot stop you if you have decided to move on."
