A Punjab court on Monday summoned Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge in a ₹ 100 core defamation case over the party equating the banned Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) with Bajrang Dal in its Karnataka Assembly election manifesto. The complainant said the Congress in its manifesto compared Bajrang Dal with "anti-national organisations like SIMI and Al-Qaeda" during the recently-concluded state polls. Politicians from various parties reacted to the summon, calling it a strategy to silence the opposition, especially after the Congress’ victory in Karnataka.

The Congress party on Tuesday released its manifesto for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, in which it has stated that it is committed to taking firm and decisive action against individuals and organizations spreading hatred against communities on the grounds of caste and religion. The party's manifesto includes a promise to ban organizations like the Bajrang Dal and the Popular Front of India, stating that they violate the law and Constitution and promote enmity and hatred among communities. The manifesto was released by the party president Mallikarjun Kharge in the presence of former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President DK Shivakumar, and Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera. The manifesto called 'Sarva Janangada Shanthiya Thota' speaks of five guarantees, ie. Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi, Anna Bhagya, Yuva Nidhi and Shakti. Reacting to this PM Modi in his rally in Karnataka's Vijaynagar said congress wants to lock up those who worship lord hanuman.

The workers tore the posters of the film Pathaan and threatened not to release the film. The controversy surrounds the movie's newly released song ‘Besharam Rang’. The song features Shah Rukh and Deepika romancing in Spain. Right-wing groups and some BJP leaders have demanded a ban on the song and the film as they feel offended by the saffron colored outfits worn by Deepika in the song. Following the outrage, the censor board has directed the filmmakers to implement a few “changes” in the film including the songs. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on January 25.
