Mohammad Abu Salmiya, the director general of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, said that he has never seen in previous Israeli wars on the Palestinian territory, similar type of wounds and injuries that they sustained in this war.
In an interview with Al Jazeera Arabic, Salmiya, said that the new types of injuries were likely a result of Israel using "new deadly weapons" against the people living in Gaza.
More than 700 Palestinians were killed in overnight Israeli air raids on Gaza, according to Palestinian officials, the highest 24-hour death toll since Israel began bombarding the besieged territory earlier this month.
The Israeli military said on Tuesday it hit more than 400 “Hamas targets” and killed dozens of Hamas fighters in the attacks, and warned that it would take time to achieve its aim of destroying the Palestinian group
The health ministry in Gaza, which is governed by Hamas, has said at least 5,791 Palestinians, including 2,360 children, have been killed in the Israeli assault
A total of 704 people were killed in the previous 24 hours alone, the ministry said on Tuesday. Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qidra said it was the highest 24-hour number of deaths in the two weeks of Israeli bombing.
Meanwhile, Qatari PM and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in the Qatari capital, Doha. In his speech, Al-Thani warned all parties to stop “plunging the entire region into mayhem”, which could give rise to an “unbearable crisis”
Turkish FM Hakan Fidan said the world needs to act to end Israel’s war on Gaza, accusing Israel of targeting civilians in the besieged enclave. “Israel is targeting civilians even in hospitals and places of worship. Every human being with a conscience should act to put an end to this brutality. We should act together and in unity. “What Israeli occupation forces are exercising is a collective punishment against all the residents of Gaza. Gazans cannot be uprooted from their homeland.”
Qatar and Turkey have examined all dimensions of the conflict in the meeting, the Qatari FM added, including mechanisms to reach a ceasefire “on all fronts” and prevent further escalation in the conflict. “Qatar condemns the collective punishment policy on Gaza … more than 2.3 million Palestinians are denied their basic necessities,” he added. “This is a flagrant violation of international law.”
Al-Thani said the only way to reach a peaceful solution in Gaza is to keep communication channels open. He added that Qatar will continue coordinating with Turkey and regional partners to de-escalate the crisis in the besieged enclave.
