In her speech, President Murmu highlighted the long-standing political ties between India and Algeria, which began shortly after Algeria's independence in 1962, and praised the strong friendship between the two nations.
Upon her arrival, President Murmu was warmly welcomed by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, underlining the significance of this historic diplomatic visit.
During her address to the Indian community, President Murmu spoke about India's rapid development, noting the country's consistent economic growth and reduction in poverty, positioning India as the fifth-largest economy globally.
President Murmu praised the Indian community in Algeria for their role in supporting India's growth and maintaining strong ties with Algeria, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
As part of her visit, President Murmu will engage in bilateral talks with the Algerian President and address the India-Algeria Economic Forum to discuss further economic collaboration between the two countries.
On October 14, President Murmu will visit the Maqam Echahid monument in Algiers, paying tribute to those who lost their lives in Algeria’s war of independence.
Following her visit to Algeria, President Murmu will travel to Mauritania and Malawi, where she will hold high-level meetings, sign agreements, and engage with the Indian diaspora, concluding her tour on October 19.
