Israel's military offensive in Gaza, following the Hamas attack on October 7, has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians and left the region in ruins.

Since the war began, over 41,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza, while around 1,200 Israelis lost their lives due to the initial Hamas attack.

A total of 251 people were taken hostage by Hamas, with 66 still believed to be alive in Gaza, while 35 are thought to have died in captivity.

The war has caused extensive damage in Gaza, with over 120,000 structures moderately or severely damaged, including 215,000 housing units.

Around 92 per cent of Gaza's primary roads have been damaged, and 84 per cent of health facilities have been destroyed, severely affecting the region's infrastructure.

The war has displaced about 1.9 million Palestinians, which accounts for 90 per cent of Gaza’s population, stated the data.

The estimated cost of the destruction caused by the first three months of the war is around USD 18.5 billion, nearly matching the highest GDP ever reported in the West Bank and Gaza in 2022.

Across the world, vigils and protests have been held to mark the anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attack, reflecting widespread divisions in global opinion.

In New York, a pro-Palestinian protest and a remembrance ceremony for Israeli victims were held in close proximity, highlighting the polarised views on the conflict.

Political leaders and activists globally, including in Europe and Australia, have called for peace and recognised the suffering on both sides of the conflict, as the war between Israel and Hamas continues.
