A 22-year-old woman has recently received a lot of attention after she spoke out about a rare disease that makes her look like a child. She developed a rare form of brain cancer, when she was just six months old and underwent chemotherapy that stunted her growth. Rae now stands at 3'10" - average height of an eight-year-old girl - despite being in her early 20s.
She recounted her story in a new documentary on TLC. In the trailer for the show, Rae introduces herself saying, "If you were to look at me, you would think I'm just a normal little girl, doing normal little girl things with my fun, crazy family. But the truth is, I'm a woman." The show, which premieres on January 11, 2022, shows Rae facing issues trying to do normal things that a 22-year-old woman does in everyday life.

Rae has been turned away from a bar and was even questioned about her age when she tried to sign up for a gym. Her mother, Patricia âPatty' Schrankel, also spoke about the heartbreaking time when her daughter had brain cancer as a baby. "Shauna was six months old when we found out she had brain cancer," said Patty. "I feel, I guess almost guilty, that she will have to go through this for the rest of her life, so all I can do is protect her," she adds.
Rae's pituitary gland was rendered almost dormant because of chemotherapy. "The doctor told me I was done growing. My bones were fused," she added. Rae also shared how her dating life has been affected, explaining that she is single, and always tends to attract the wrong kind of guys. "I attract creeps, a''holes, and idiots. It is scary to put myself out there, but you have to put some risk in order to get happiness" says Rae. She is looking to become more independent and wants to be seen as an adult. "I can't go anywhere without them asking questions," says Rae.
