An earthquake of magnitude 4.3 jolted Central California of the United States on Thursday (local time), according to the US Geological Survey, reported news agency ANI.
According to the US geological survey, the earthquake occurred at 19:17:18 (UTC) on August 10 with the epicenter located at 6 kilometers NorthWest of California's Parkfield. The USGS said that the last "Parkfield earthquake" was in 2004, reported ANI.
Taking to its official Twitter handle, the USGS stated, "Today's M4.3 near Parkfield reminds us that the Parkfield segment of the San Andreas has produced M~6 quakes relatively frequently since the 1800s. The last "Parkfield earthquake" was in 2004, 19 yrs ago."
No reports of casualties or material damage are known yet.
Meanwhile, a magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook southern Turkey on Thursday, causing damage to buildings and wounding 23 people, Turkish officials told Associated Press.
At least 23 were injured as a result of Thursday's quake, which was centreed in the town of Yesilyurt in Malatya province and felt in Adiyaman, both provinces hit by the devastating earthquakes in February, which killed at least 50,000 people in Turkey and Syria, reported Associated Press.
Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca told Associated Press. in a social media post that the injuries sustained in Malatya and Adiyaman consisted of falls and people throwing themselves off buildings to avoid being crushed under a collapsed building.
Private broadcaster NTV reported that some damage could be seen in buildings as a result of Thursday's earthquake.
Another earthquake of magnitude 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded 112km SSE of Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar island on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, National Center for Seismology said, reported ANI.
The tremors were felt at 02:56:12 Indian standard time (IST).
According to NCS, the depth of the earthquake was registered at 10 km.
"Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.3, Occurred on 11-08-2023, 02:56:12 IST, Lat: 10.66 & Long: 93.04, Depth: 10 km, Location: 112km SSE of Portblair, Andaman and Nicobar Island, India," NCS tweeted.
Earlier, an earthquake of magnitude 4.5 jolted the Andaman and Nicobar island on Monday, National Center for Seismology said.
The quake hit the islands at 12:53:24 Indian standard time (IST).
National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.
