Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II passes away: Buckingham Palace

Queen Elizabeth II, who had been under medical supervision at Balmoral, has passed away, Buckingham Palace said on Thursday. Queen Elizabeth II was 96.

In a statement, the official Twitter account The Royal Family tweeted, "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

In a statement, Charles, Britain's new king wrote:

"The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family. We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world. During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held."

Earlier, the new United Kingdom Prime Minister, Liz Truss said that the whole country was "deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime."

Taking to Twitter, The UK PM said, "The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime. My thoughts - and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom - are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time."
