The couple takes turns guarding the nest and eggs they stole. While one of them stays with the eggs, the other one goes out to hunt for food
A couple of opportunistic penguins, who live in Netherlands' Dieren Park, have resorted to stealing other penguins' eggs regularly. Such is their enthusiasm to become parents that they robbed a heterosexual penguin couple's potential offspring, but it didn't go as planned. The egg didn't fertilise. Speaking about the nest robbers' first attempt, Marc Belt, zookeeper, said, "Homosexuality is fairly common in penguins, but what makes this couple remarkable is that they have gotten hold of an egg."
When their first attempt to become parents backfired, they didn't lose heart. They turned to snatching the eggs of a couple of lesbian birds. Daily Mail reported that the expectant fathers made off with the lesbian birds' entire nest. It seems like they want a chick, no matter what the cost. They are taking turns babysitting the eggs currently, while the other one hunts for food. It's unlikely that the eggs will hatch, as they were stolen from female penguins and will not be fertilised.

Luckily, the lady lovebirds don't seem to be disturbed by the nest robbery. It is likely that they will build a replacement soon as the species breeds twice per year, according to keepers. The gay couple is also dominant when it comes to other matters. They are the strongest couple from the 17 at the enclosure. "Each couple in the enclosure has their own shelter, but this couple has commandeered two," remarked zookeeper Sander Drost.
Artist creates fairy sculptures by piecing together parts from various dead insects
Cedric Laquieze is an artist known for his hauntingly beautiful sculptures of fairies. Laquieze creates them by painstakingly piecing together bug parts that complement each other. He collects dead insect specimens given to him by breeders and takes their corpses apart. He then glues various parts of the insects, such as their shells, legs, antennae or wings, together.
"The aspect of the fairies that I like the most is that over the span, I've never made the same piece twice, and the shapes, colours and designs are extremely diverse, from dark and intimidating to almost cartoon-like or Victorian and classic. Each one has found its counterpart," he said.
Boston's Franklin Park Zoo recently welcomed its latest resident, a newborn gorilla baby that hasn't been named yet. The male infant had to be delivered via cesarean section after his mom Kiki, a 39-year-old western lowland gorilla, began experiencing pregnancy-related complications. "He's a big baby," wrote Zoo New England, a blog for the zoo, in a post. He is Kiki's fifth child. Pic/Franklin Park Zoo, Facebook
