No cash for concert tickets? Pay in blood

Music fans in Poland not willing to pay cold hard cash for tickets to a concert by British-Polish pop duo can donate their blood instead, the Warsaw municipality said yesterday.

"Anyone who donates blood in September or October will receive the conventional bar of chocolate as well as a concert ticket," Warsaw city spokeswoman Urszula Majewska said.

Blood donors will get to see John Porter, a British musician and producer of Roxy Music fame, and Polish singer Anita Lipnicka during a concert organised as part of a drive to attract blood donors.

A mobile donor station is to be set up by Warsaw's central metro station every Wednesday for anyone keen to give blood.
