A man in China has been imprisoned for 10 months and fined 50,000 yuan (about $7,890) for copyright infringement after he illegally downloaded nearly 10,000 online novels and reproduced them on his website.


A man in China has been imprisoned for 10 months and fined 50,000 yuan (about $7,890) for copyright infringement after he illegally downloaded nearly 10,000 online novels and reproduced them on his website.

The 25-year-old website founder, surnamed Yan, reproduced the downloaded novels on his own site to make profits. He was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a one-year reprieve, for copyright infringement, the Shanghai Daily quoted the Pudong New Area People's Court as saying.

Yan created a reading website last year in March and started providing online readers with free access to novels that he reproduced from other websites. He earned his income from his website.u00a0

Shanghai police arrested him from his home in July this year.u00a0

The man pleaded guilty in court and said he could not find a job after graduation and started his own online library business after purchasing management software.
