Nepal's former King Gyanendra Shah has suffered a heart attack, officials said
Kathmandu: Nepal's former King Gyanendra Shah has suffered a heart attack, officials said.
On Saturday night, Gyanendra was rushed to the Norvic International Hospital in Kathmandu after he complained of profuse sweating and nausea.
Doctors performed an angioplasty on him and installed a stent to open the blockage in his artery.
According to hospital officials, Gyanendra had suffered a heart attack but he was out of danger.
"His health condition is stable and he is out of danger," said Yadav Bhatta, who conducted surgery on Gyanendra.
The former king will remain in hospital for two more days, Bhatta said.
A huge crowd and Gyanendra's well-wishers Sunday gathered outside the hospital.
The pro-royalist Rastriya Prajatantra Party has called upon its party leaders and cadres to offer their best wishes to Gyanendra.
Gyanendra's son Paras also suffered from a second massive heart attack in Thailand in February 2013. Paras lives there with his Thai girlfriend.
Gyanendra stepped down and abdicated the throne in 2008 end after Nepal's political parties decided to end the country's two and a half centuries old constitutional monarchy and turn the Himalayan nation into a republic.
