Rahim Daad killed Farzana she tried to leave him following an argument

Karachi: Fourteen years after he killed his first wife, a Pakistani man yesterday murdered his second wife by repeatedly stabbing her before slitting her throat with a knife, in the latest case of "honour killing" in the country.

Activists came out in droves to demand action after the issue of honour killings was thrust in the spotlight after Qandeel Baloch's murder by her brother

Rahim Daad confessed to killing Farzana (35) inside their home in the name of honour, a police official said. Early Wednesday night, the couple had an argument over some issue, following which Farzana wanted to leave the house and Daad. In an ensuing scuffle, Daad took out his knife and killed her.

He stabbed her in the abdomen and then slit her throat. The suspect had killed his first wife, a mother of three, citing that she too had shamed the family, the police said.

In Pakistan, the victims of "honour killings" are overwhelmingly women, with hundreds killed each year. The crime came under the international spotlight after social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch was killed by her brother.

Rights groups have for years called for tougher laws to tackle perpetrators of violence against women in Pakistan.
