Cops must weed out Vasai’s Stella Aatank gang

The Stella Aatank gang has unleashed a reign of terror in Vasai West, with thugs and drugs spreading fear and terror in the area. A report detailed how the youngsters, hardcore criminals, have been mugging persons and attacking locals, stealing two-wheelers and cell phones.

A man was helped by a househelp in one such instance, with the help stating that if the man had not gotten aid, he would have died.

Locals claim they have started a signature campaign for the police to take stricter action and stamp out the reign of terror of the Stella Aatank gang.

One can only imagine living in such an unhealthy atmosphere, with women fearful of stepping out. There is not very good lighting on certain patches outside, something residents say aids criminal groups like this.

A report in this paper cited how a man was chased by a gang member and hid near a bungalow, but the criminals hounded him right till the place. It sounds right out of a horror film but this is real, not reel.

The police need to set up patrol squads. Helpline numbers for Vasaikars, even a special number will help. See that the roads and corners are well lit.

Posters telling people about avenues to ask for emergency help should also be part of the plan. If citizens feel their complaints are not being heeded, we need some intervention over here too.

A gang of criminals cannot hold a society to ransom and affect quality of life, having an adverse effect on the psychological well-being of the people. We have to see that this gang is smashed by our men in uniform.

Let there be all hands on deck and an iron-willed effort to bring an end to these crimes.
