MyNEWS readers are happy the UPA has won the elections, but say the party should now keep its promises

Terrorist attacks all over India are still fresh in everyone's minds. Now it is for the Congress government to come revamp national security measures.

Since the UPA needs only 11 seats for a majority, it should join with independents who will not rub them the wrong way like the Left did in the nuclear deal with the US.

Heir apparent: Rahul Gandhi has come of age in these elections.

Nor should they entertain people like Lalu, Amar Singh or Ram Vilas Paswan who are more of a nuisance in a coalition government.

The election mandate has proved that the Congress has the strong backing of the people of this country.

The senior leaders and youngsters like leader Rahul Gandhi now have to shoulderu00a0 the responsibility of steering the nation out of its current crisis.

This is a very good opportunity for the UPA to set out with renewed vigour and tackle problems like unemployment, poverty, industrial reforms, national security, etc.

With the UPA winning with a thumping majority, there is a certain level of reassurance that if reforms are properly implemented, they can run smoothly for the next five years.

So the UPA should concentrate more on these issues and not on who should constitute the 11 remaining seats. The UPA had promised good governance and they should now ensure that.

Love the aam aadmi

Voters all over India have exercised their franchise in the favour of Congress with the hope that now there will be no more religion or language-based politics. All decisions should be taken for the aam aadmi irrespective of his religion, language, caste and creed.

Afzal Guru, Abu Salem and Qasab who waged war against India should be hanged soon to deter other terrorists from targeting us.

The Congress should keep in mind the late Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan, Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, indicating the paramount importance of all our security forces and intelligence agencies.

They are the ones who ensure the security of our nation against our untrustworthy neighbours, the Taliban and other terror groups.

Similarly, our farmers should be given priority, as they are the backbone of our country. This love and affection the Congress showered on the villagers before the polls should not end now that they have won.

And if the Congress wants to win the goodwill of crores of secular Indians, then it should solve the Ayodhya dispute amicably with the support of the Muslims who are really interested in national integrity.

No political party should be able to take undue advantage of this issue in the future.
