It's a mad, mad world

In the space of days, the weather has done a quick about-turn.

In the space of days, the weather has done a quick about-turn. After virtually endless months of damp grey days, it became a kind of spring and then it was summer. Valentine's Day came and went. The Sri Ram Sene went berserk and now the spillover has reached Bengalooru.u00a0

What next? The moral and self-styled patriotic police (and their PM in waiting) are strongly urging that the youth of the country join in anti-terrorism rallies. file pic

The moral and self-styled patriotic police (and their PM in waiting) are strongly urging that the youth of the country join in anti-terrorism rallies. It's a strange way of defending our beloved motherland, forming male chauvinist senas, sneaking around after dark, allegedly in pink innerwear, beating up unprotected girls in pubs and restaurants, smashing statues and shrines (when there is no one around to smash back).

Brave and truly patriotic acts compared to confronting armed Pakistan army battalions or heavily armed terrorists in Mumbai. But they stick courageously to their mission of moral cleansing by these violent attacks on fairly harmless women, in defence of the motherland.

The Karnataka Govt has changed after the last election. So, there has been a superficial change in the spate of government-sponsored advertisements. We had one endless series of identical layouts. First one set showing the same photo of H D Kumaraswamy striding manfully down the face of Karnataka or India.

And now clones of the same with B S Yeddyurappa in the heroic posture. It is quite scary how much money is wasted to prop up the sagging images of our netas. Now at lease there is a small break, with the announcement of poll dates and the imposing of the so-called 'model code of conduct'.

Something is very wrong with the Sea of Terror (formerly known as the Arabian Sea). Pakistan seems to be the epicentre of the Tsunami of attempted terror that laps the shores of the sub-continent.....

For years now cricket has become an act of war by Pakistan against India. Reports of Pak reactions to Indians remind me of the British admiral Sir Horatio Nelson who had lost one eye in battle. But that did not stop him from leading a heroic navy. On one occasion his mate warned him 'Milord, the enemy is closing fast upon us'. Nelson ignored him. 'Please do look, I beg you Sir.' We need to take action soonu2026 We cannot fight back but perhaps we should retreat.' Lord Nelson dramatically lifted his telescope and thenu2026he put it to his blind eye.

Last evening, TV was showing a sports news programme (Pakistan vs Sri Lanka, a cricket one dayer). But no cricket was happening atu00a0 the Gaddafi stadium, only re-runs of scenes of terrorism.u00a0

The whole incident was...is... a mystery. A senior Pakistan official was asked for his opinion. 'Who did it?' He put his telescope (metaphorically speaking ) to his blind eye. Then without evening waiting for the ball he tried to hit it for a six.

People said they came from the East. 'They must have been the Indians.'

There is only one thing I can say 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World'.
