Forty-four old Rajni Narayan, a mother of three, is facing a charge of murder in the Adelaide Magistrate's Court after her husband Satish Narayan, an employee in the Australian Navy's Air Warfare Destroyer project, died on December 27 from his injuries after being burned in his home.

She is accused of murdering her husband by setting his genitals alight. The prosecutor told the court Ms Narayan allegedly told neighbours she was a "jealous wife" who had learned he was having an affair.

It is alleged the accused doused her husband's genitals with petrol as he slept at home and set him alight about 5.30 am on December 7.

It is believed a blaze erupted after the husband jumped out of bed and knocked over a bottle of petrol, which spread to a nearby property and caused damage worth Aus$1 million (approx Rs 3.5 crore).

It is alleged Ms Narayan, who escaped from their burning home along with the three children, told neighbours her husband was having an affair with another woman.

She allegedly said: "His penis should belong to me. I wanted to burn his penis so it didn't belong to anyone else."

She is also alleged to have said: "It was just his penis I wanted to burn" and that she didn't want "anything like this to happen."
