Forty-one year old Suresh Surendranath Nair, a top neurosurgeon charged with supplying drugs to a woman found dead in his apartment, has admitted breaching his bail by taking cocaine and hiring escorts.
The doctor made a fresh application for bail yesterday following his arrest in the early hours on Saturday morning.
His lawyer told the court the Malaysian-born surgeon had "suffered a relapse" of his problems, which had previously seen him struck off as a medical practitioner.
Police detectives had Nair under surveillance at his rented apartment in Bondi, and allege he separately hired three female escorts over 2u00bd hours.
As part of his bail conditions, Dr Nair is barred from hiring any sex workers or taking illicit drugs.
The raid on the unit came a week after Dr Nair discharged himself from a private hospital where he had been undergoing treatment since being charged in relation to the death of Suellen Domingues Zaupa (22) at his Elizabeth Bay unit on November 21 last year.
He was charged with supplying cocaine to Zaupa, who was reportedly working as a prostitute, although her friends and family deny she was a sex worker.
The matter returns to court on March 1.
