A cat and leopard came face to face in Nashik after the latter fell down a well while chasing the former, said a forest official on Monday. The incident was captured on camera.

The incident took place in Kankori village under Sinnar taluka, where the leopard may have fallen into the well while chasing the cat on late Saturday night, he added.

The well is located in the farm of one Ganesh Sangle, a resident of Kankori. Sangle and other villagers heard the leopard's roars coming out of the well on early Sunday morning and informed the forest department.

"The leopard fell in the well while chasing the cat," said Pankaj Garg, Deputy Conservator of Forests, West Nashik Division, as per an ANI tweet

In a 16-second video, it is seen that the big cat falls inside the well. He is then seen inching towards the cat while she in ‘defense mode' balances herself on two feet.

Both the animals were rescued safely from the 25 to 30 feet deep well with the help of a crane on late Sunday evening by the forest department, said Garg.

"The leopard was later rescued and released in its natural habitat," he added.
