Couples now visit cosmetic surgeons together for rhinoplasty cum to perfecting chipped teeth regimen
Unlike in the past, when only the bride-to-be would consider going under the knife before her wedding, city cosmetic surgeons are increasingly noticing couples consulting them together to get their smiles and faces perfect for the big day. Interestingly, men are equally, if not more, interested than their brides in the procedures.
Take the case of Payal Doshi (26) and Akshay Mehta (28). "We are getting married next month and want to look good in the wedding pictures. We are opting for tooth brightening sessions together," said Doshi. Her fiance Mehta is equally enthusiastic. "There's no shame in admitting that you want to look good on important days."
The couple have already completed a session, and have two sittings to go in the next fortnight. In Santacruz, Shalini Khosla (23) and her fiance have also been visiting a dentist for simultaneous smile-enhancement procedures for their January 2011 wedding. "I have a chipped tooth and my fiance's teeth are yellow. So, we started early."
Dentist Karishma Jaradi of Dentzz Dental Care Centre at Peddar Road, who is treating Doshi and Mehta, says that more couples are dropping by together for cosmetic dental treatments. "It's certainly not a ratio in favour of women only. Men ask for private and personal consultations before we start any procedure. We thought of doing a group session but since couples are more private about their needs, we tend to them individually," said Jaradi.
And it's not only to-be-weds. A married couple consulted cosmetic surgeon Dr Vijay Sharma this week. "The guy wanted a rhinoplasty and the woman needed a chemical peel, so we were happy to talk to them together, and plan their procedures. In any case, husbands and wives move constantly in and out of our operation theatres during cosmetic enhancement procedures to support their spouses," said Sharma.
