Only 250 of 600 invitees could make it yesterday at Ghatkopar wedding
When the bridal couple's families had pencilled in July 5 as the big day, they had no clue that the Opposition parties' would choose the same day as 'shubh muhurat' for their bandh.
Of the 600 invitees, only 250 could make it to the wedding reception hall of Ghatkopar resident Kalpesh Shah and the Bangalore-based bride, Deepa.
In the reception hall at Lavender Bough Hotel in Ghatkopar, the bride in maroon sari and her groom in cream sherwani were surrounded mostly by family members and a few friends who dared to venture out.
"My friends and relatives who live far off were apologetic that they couldn't make it. Never thought my dear ones wouldn't be able to make it," said Kalpesh. "Wish the bandh were scheduled for some other day."
"We might throw another party for our friends who could not make it," Kalpesh told MiD DAY.

"Initially, we were told to cater for 600 guests. That was brought down to 450, of which only 250-300 made it," said Dharampal Talwar, owner of the hotel where the reception was hosted. "Luckily, the bride and her family reached Mumbai from Bangalore a day earlier."
