On August 5, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and left the country amid huge protests. The protests turned violent and deadly and the military was sent into Dhaka to control the situation. After she stepped down as PM, many Bangladeshis in Paris celebrated their newfound freedom. They gathered in large numbers, cheering and waving flags. The mood was joyous, with many people feeling that their country was now "free" from Hasina`s leadership.
