No relief for Rahul Gandhi in defamation case, Surat court rejects plea for stay on conviction

The Surat sessions court on Thursday rejected Rahul Gandhi`s appeal seeking a stay and suspension of the lower court order which convicted him in the 2019 defamation case and sentenced him to two years in jail. The sessions court heard both sides on April 13 and reserved the verdict for April 20. Rahul Gandhi cannot be reinstated as a Member of Parliament for now. Rahul Gandhi had requested that his conviction be paused pending his appeal against a court order sentencing him to two years in jail.
