On August 28, the BJP called for a 12-hour `Bengal Bandh` to protest against the West Bengal government after police clashed with protestors during the Nabanna Abhijan Rally. The rally, held on August 27, was organized to demand justice for the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata`s RG Kar Medical College. During the protest, police used lathis and tear gas to disperse the crowd, leading to further tensions. In response, BJP leaders took to the streets, criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and demanding action. The West Bengal Police detained several BJP leaders as the Kolkara unrest continued. TMC leader Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP of trying to create chaos in the state, adding to the already heightened emotions surrounding the tragic incident.
