West Bengal is currently in turmoil due to violent protests following a tragic rape and murder case in Kolkata. The Nabanna Abhijan Rally, organized to protest the RG Kar Hospital incident, turned chaotic when demonstrators clashed with the police. Protesters, angry about the crime, broke through barricades, leading to tense confrontations. To control the situation, Kolkata police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd, and many people, including women, were detained. The police also carried out a flag march with a large number of officers to restore order and ensure safety. In response to the Kolkata unrest, the BJP has called for a 12-hour `Bengal Bandh` on 28th of August to protest against the state government. During the bandh, drivers of North Bengal State Transport Corporation (NBSTC) buses in Cooch Behar were seen wearing helmets as a safety measure, following instructions from the authorities. The situation remains tense as efforts continue to manage the violence and maintain public order.
