In December, Chinese state-backed hackers breached the US Treasury Department`s security systems, stealing documents in what officials called a "major incident." The breach occurred through a third-party cybersecurity provider, BeyondTrust, which allowed the hackers to access unclassified documents. The Treasury Department was alerted to the breach by BeyondTrust on December 8, and agencies like the FBI and CISA are investigating the incident. BeyondTrust confirmed the hack, saying they identified and addressed the issue in early December and are cooperating with the investigation. However, the Chinese Embassy in Washington denied involvement, stating that Beijing opposes baseless accusations from the US.
