Modi carried out 'Surya Arghya,' a ritual associated with spiritual practice involving salutations to the Almighty, manifested in the form of sun and offered prayers with folded hands.

A short video clip, 'Sunrise, Surya Arghya, Spirituality,' posted by the BJP on its 'X' handle showed the PM pouring little water from a traditional, beaker-like small vessel into the sea as an offering (Arghya) and praying using his prayer beads (Japa mala).

While the PM meditates, rival parties seem to accuse him of using it as a tactic to gain the Hindu population's favour.

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Friday that politics and religion should never be brought together and if you have faith in God, then do it at your home.

Prime Minister Modi also meditated at the Dhyan Mandapam, the place where revered Hindu philosopher Swami Vivekananda is believed to have had a divine vision about 'Bharat Mata'.

On the other hand, Union Minister of State L Murugan said that visiting a temple cannot be a violation of the model code of conduct amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, and no one can stop the Prime Minister from 45-hour-long meditation in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu.
